Transparency for research - large-scale mullion-transom façade on the HDC1

RubnerHolzbau Augsburg realised a total façade area of 5,115 m² in Neuherberg near Munich. The Helmholtz Zentrum München German Research Center for Environmental Health GmbH
commissioned HDR Inc. Architects, Düsseldorf for the new Helmholtz Diabetes Center Munich.

The building called HDC 1 is a multidisciplinary bioscientific research center for diabetes research.

The main building is surrounded by a double glass façade. 1,420 m² wood-aluminium and 1,160 m² aluminium mullion-transom construction including sun protection form the inner shell and are covered of a further 1,800 m² steel mullion-transom construction with single glazing.

In addition to the facade and associated plumbing work, Rubner was also responsible for 720 m² of glass roof construction and 250 m of all-glass railings.
