This building project included both the expansion of the kindergarten to adapt the capacity to the number of children and to adapt the structure to pedagogical requirements, and the renovation of the existing structure. The choice of building materials, such as wood and other materials, was made with sustainability, recycling and architectural requirements in mind. The architectural choices were made to emphasise the exposed wooden structure in particular.
Due to the school’s activities, most of the work had to be carried out during the summer holidays of the nursery school. This required continuous collaboration with other contractors on site. Due to the limited surface area of the site, it was not possible to store large quantities of material on site. The flexibility of the production department and transport therefore played a decisive role in the delivery of the material according to the progress of the work. The pre-assembly of the fittings in the workshop and the prefabrication of the frame elements helped to speed up assembly.
A total of 140 m³ of glulam, 1,200 m² of XLAM floor elements and 260 m² of internal and external wall elements were used. The roof structure consists of universal panels and covers an area of 140 m².
Rubner worked on this project in a temporary consortium with the company Deltedesco. The construction site began on 17 June 2020, immediately after the end of the kindergarten year, and the assembly of the wooden structure was completed in mid-October of the same year.
