“Das Stadtregal” represents an innovative, future-oriented housing concept in the heart of Vienna: four building volumes, one common goal – affordable living, social exchange, and architectural quality in a harmonious ensemble. In addition to flexible living and working units, temporary starter apartments, student shared apartments, maisonettes, and townhouses, open spaces and communal areas create a vibrant and versatile environment.
Two of the buildings were constructed using hybrid wood construction. Our task: to develop and implement a thoughtful wooden façade – with maximum prefabrication, high functionality, and clear design.
Two types of walls were used:
- Wall elements that were directly mounted on the concrete core, serving as thermal insulation and an optical highlight.
- Non-load-bearing, space-enclosing exterior walls that were fitted between concrete components (columns).
We produced all the façade elements in our plant in Ober-Grafendorf – complete with pre-greyed spruce cladding, windows, window sills, and integrated sun protection. The assembly on the densely built construction site required the highest precision and well-coordinated logistics.
As a result, we were able to assemble all the walls within a few months and successfully complete the project.
