Australia, for more than a decade, has been and is a significant market for Rubner Timber Engineering. In collaboration with our local partner Theca Timber, we have completed many inspiring timber construction projects along the east coast of Australia, from Sydney to Melbourne and Brisbane.
Our portfolio ranges from multi-story university buildings, such as the Macquarie University, to timber roofing structures for swimming pools and recreational facilities, such as the Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre, designed as a 6 Star Green Star building,
to the Eric Tweedale Stadium, an award-winning project, which seats about 1,000 spectators. One of our flagship projects is the new Sydney Fish Market, which is the largest timber roof of its kind in the southern hemisphere. Nearly 600 glulam beams, sourced from certified forests within a 250-kilometer radius of our plant in Austria, were processed and finished at our facility in Brixen, South Tyrol.

Timber, our passion.
The Rubner Group – unique in Europe. It is a long process from the tree growing in sustainably managed forests to the finished timber construction project – normally. At Rubner, this path is deliberately kept short. The wood we use comes from PEFC-certified forestry, primarily from the Austrian region. This is where the unique value chain under the Rubner brand begins with our own sawmill. The delivered tree trunks are processed into timber.
This is dried and selected in a controlled manner on site. In the area of Timber Engineering, we process the wood into glulam and cross-laminated timber. Not a single piece of wood is lost in the sawmill itself: even the residual materials, such as chips and sawdust, are fed back into sustainable cycles, such as pellet production or use in urban heating systems.
