Following the devastating earthquake of 2016, little remained of the former Residence Ambassador in Frontignano. Today, it shines as a modern timber structure, nestled at an altitude of 1,600 metres within the breathtaking landscape of the Monti Sibillini.
The new hotel comprises three separate buildings with over 100 apartments across five floors. These are connected by state-of-the-art seismic joints, designed for maximum safety – constructed from a material that has proven its worth in challenging environments: timber.

Rubner was responsible for the entire load-bearing timber structure. Supplied and installed were walls made of cross-laminated timber, ceiling and roof elements of glued laminated timber, as well as prefabricated universal panels – all meticulously planned and precisely prefabricated. Despite difficult weather conditions and challenging logistics, the timber construction work was completed on schedule.
Why timber? Because it responds elastically in the event of an earthquake, absorbs movement, and can be quickly and easily repaired if necessary. Additionally, the high level of prefabrication enables short construction times – a clear advantage in high-altitude regions with long winters.
The reconstruction of the Residence Ambassador exemplifies what intelligent timber construction can achieve: safe, quick, resource-efficient – and ready for the future.
