Harmony over the Lake
Project Lago
Protected by the rich Mediterranean vegetation of the territory on which it stands, a villa with a strongly contemporary architecture is at the same time astonishingly integrated into the environment.
The size of the volume to be built was clearly defined by building regulations. The structure is indeed located on a steep slope facing southwest, on a limestone ridge, offering an exceptional view of Torbole and the northern end of the lake. Access to the site is via a narrow road on the upper edge. Therefore, the spatial sequences were already
determined by the topographic and climatic conditions. The design of the volumes and facades follows the principle of terracing the land using massive construction elements, stacked horizontally, in light limestone or in dark-painted exposed concrete blocks, and surfaces in glass or in black painted metal.
For the owners, it was essential to have a single point of contact for the execution of the works. Turning to Rubner Haus entailed a huge advantage, also for the possibility to freely choose materials, finishes, interiors, in a single showroom, the Boutique in Chienes, and in very short times.
“Working with Rubner Haus facilitated the whole process,” explains the architect Martin Thoma. “I didn’t have to worry about keeping in touch with the various subcontractors on site, and on the construction site I had a single point of contact, but above all, I was able to realize my architecture and the ideas of the clients in complete freedom.”
