White among the olive trees

Project Polignano a Mare

Set among olive and almond trees overlooking the blue waters of the Adriatic, a pearly white house offers a contemporary interpretation of Puglia’s traditional architecture.

In the countryside near Polignano a Mare, Antonella and her daughter live in a passive house that combines local materials, clean lines and timber construction.

Its radiant white appearance recalls the characteristic masserie of Puglia and blends harmoniously into the surrounding landscape. The use of locally sourced limestone in the outdoor areas further reinforces this connection.

Inside, a timber frame structure combined with cork insulation ensures high energy efficiency and a comfortable indoor climate throughout the year.

Expansive glazing, clearly articulated outdoor spaces and a sequence of terraces create seamless transitions between inside and outside, opening views towards the infinity pool and the sea beyond.

“This project demonstrates that wood,
as premium building material,
can find its place in any landscape context.”
