Wood as a lifestyle choice
Project Maranza
Overlooking the picturesque Puster Valley, this single-family house with two residential units is located in Maranza in Southtyrol, offering an unobstructed view of the Dolomites that accompanies every moment of daily life.
The clients, a family from Munich with two children, desired a house capable of combining functionality, warmth, and a strong architectural identity. The result is a project that puts wood at the center without compromise: no plastered surfaces, but a timber frame structure completely clad in wood, both inside and out.
On the exterior, the cut and brushed larch cladding evokes the language of alpine chalets, reinterpreting them in a contemporary key. Inside, brushed spruce wood envelopes the rooms in a cozy and authentic atmosphere, where exposed wood becomes an architectural, material, and emotional element.
The project was developed in close collaboration with architect Andreas Gruber, who gave the building a tapered roofline and a series of architectural refinements capable of lightening the volumes and creating a dialogue with the surrounding landscape. Great attention was also paid to technical aspects, ensuring high living quality in every room.
The deliberately contained living area required careful optimization of space. Coordination between Rubner Haus and the interior design studio, responsible for the furnishings, made it possible to create custom interiors with functional and elegant solutions that enhance every square meter. Completing the house is a spacious basement housing a wine cellar and a party room, designed as a space for conviviality and sharing.
A project that tells the story of an essential yet meaningful way of living, where architecture, landscape, and material merge in a natural and lasting balance.
A precise and contemporary interpretation of Alpine architectural culture, sensitive to topography and materiality.
