British Romanticism
Project Iseo
In the countryside just outside Bergamo, bordered by the waters of Lake Iseo, a house where natural light reigns and white illuminates the wood showcases the couple’s love for British architecture and design.
For Laura and Manuel, from Villongo, a quiet location near Lake Iseo, the connection to nature that they have been accustomed to since childhood has never been interrupted. However, to find a new expression for it, a project lasting several years was needed – between dream, design, and realization.
The fundamental requirement of the owners was to have airy, spacious areas, even within the compact chosen size of 140 square meters gross, that develop on a single level while maintaining a deep dialogue with the outside and especially facilitating movement from one environment to another. The large doors, the hallways, the corridors, and the multiple support points that allow for slow and secure walking—all are designed to ease life in the home, also with an eye towards the future.
The British style, a passion of Laura and Manuel, is the common thread of the project: in the architecture as well as in the furnishings and finishes, one finds that particular poetry that English houses naturally possess. The glass walls can also recall the greenhouses of the Victorian era—details that are not secondary. The living room and dining area form a unique space that allows the family and guests to enjoy this bright area of the house together. From here, one opens up to the garden, connected to the spacious portico open on three sides that protects the entrance.
“It is a relief to have a single point of contact when embarking on such a large project as building a house. And Rubner Haus takes care of every aspect, from the design phase to the handover of the keys.” – Laura and Manuel
