Headquarters at Chienes
The headquarters of Rubner Haus
The Rubner Competence Center in Chienes is a simply designed, elongated cube and represents the headquarters of Rubner Haus.
This three-story timber frame building houses a research, development, and planning center, as well as a “Boutique” for builders and architects. The front office building is representative in design both inside and out, standing out with its black wooden facade and unusual window boxes. In contrast, the newly constructed section is white and features floor-to-ceiling horizontal glass panels. A natural shading system, presented in the form of grid-like wooden slats, reflects the architect’s functional concept—”low tech.” The Competence Center is the first certified office building according to the Climabita guidelines.
The two buildings are interconnected by a glazed bridge structure made of glued laminated timber. The two structures reflect the desire to showcase as many of Rubner’s products as possible, from the load-bearing structure made of laminated timber to the facade and ceiling panels, as well as the doors and windows. With the completion of the company headquarters, Rubner has impressively demonstrated that multi-story office buildings and functional structures can be competently realized using timber construction systems.
