At first sight, this house emanates a fairytale charm, with its evocative shapes and the “magical” context in which it stands, on the shores of Lake Wolfgangsee, in Sankt Gilgen, Austria. Indeed, the surrounding environment, a naturalistic region of Salzburg, a land dear to Mozart, a native of this area, is truly enchanting.
And it was the unchanging charm of fairy tales and that of childhood memories that led the owner to choose to build here this important home, at the same time as simple and welcoming as a child’s embrace.
The fairytale atmosphere has taken on very particular connotations, thanks to the architect Danilo Silvestrin, a family friend who was entrusted with the project:
The structure is in fact very reminiscent of the Palladian villas of Veneto, with their mathematical proportions and essential exteriors. This compositional and formal essentiality that points to symmetry also refers to another great architect, the Japanese Tadao Ando, famous for his “power of geometry” emphasized by light.
A light that in this gorgeous house is in every way part of the architecture: the walls covered in wood harmoniously recall the colors of the territory, the windows create a continuous flow of the gaze, which simultaneously includes all the shades of Nature, their sweet change with the seasons. Spacious, bright interiors, where you can breathe the healthy air of wood together with a truly unique charm, between modernity and tradition, design and functionality, in the name of warmth and harmony with nature.
“I first got to know Rubner through the architecture magazine Detail. Then, as I often spend time on the Alpe di Siusi, I decided to visit the nearby headquarters at Chienes and was struck by the organisation, efficiency, quality of materials and production processes. I couldn’t do other than propose to my client to build with them.”
