Spirituality and wood
The Monastery in Lecce, Puglia
In Lecce, a true place of peace and spirituality has emerged: the Monastery of the Poor Clares of Santa Chiara and San Francesco.
This impressive project, designed by the architectural firm ACME from Verona, stands out with the “Casablanca” wall system from Rubner Haus. Here, the exposed wood in the interiors takes center stage, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that encourages visitors to linger. Spanning an area of 600 m², the monastery offers not only a chapel but also six cells, as well as a workshop, a library, and a kitchen. A special highlight is the 60 m² space for those in need, providing a tranquil retreat for individuals seeking peace and inner reflection.
The sisters, who previously lived in a wooden structure, have discovered a comfortable refuge in this new environment, one that withstands even the coldest winter days. Thanks to the expertise of the designers in timber construction, a space has been created that perfectly blends functionality and beauty. Thus, the Monastery of the Poor Clares is not only a place of tradition but also a shining example of forward-thinking architecture that touches the soul.
