Rubner Haus at Milan Design Week 2026

The Garden of the Hesperides

20.04.2026 - 30.04.2026

On the occasion of the Interni’s exhibition “Materiae”, during the Fuorisalone 2026, Rubner Haus arrives in the beating heart of Brera to give shape to a legend. Within the Botanical Garden, the mastery of timber construction meets the dreamlike vision of architect Annabel Kassar in the installation “The Garden of the Hesperides.”

The Concept: A journey between myth and nature

Inspired by the mythological garden at the edge of the world, where the golden apples of immortality grew, the installation transforms the Botanical Garden into a path of discovery. The heart of the work is a sinuous and enveloping portico entirely crafted by Rubner Haus, guiding visitors along the garden’s central axis.

Amidst the greenery, twenty display cases painted by the artist evoke the guardian nymphs, while the mythical serpent Ladon waits in the shadows of the garden, inviting the public into a theatrical and immersive exploration.

The engineering of sustainability

For Rubner Haus, the challenge was to translate Annabel Kassar’s organic forms into a complex yet environmentally respectful wooden structure:

  • Modularity and Reuse: The portico is designed to be entirely disassembled and reused in other contexts, staying true to the principles of the circular economy.
  • Accessibility: A decorated platform not only ensures structural stability but also makes the installation inclusive and accessible to everyone.
  • Harmony: The natural tones of the wood blend with theatrical lighting and steel installations, creating a perfect dialogue with the garden’s precious flora.

“Our inspiration for this project comes from the Garden itself, from its history, its precious flora, and the wonderful team that works there” says Annabel Kassar. We look forward to see you in Brera to cross the threshold of this enchanted garden together.
