Südtirol Home
A Prime Example of Sustainable Timber Construction
After four years, Südtirol Home is reassembled for the big sporting event. Dismantled at the end of the Biathlon World Championships in 2020, today the Südtirol Home returns to dominate the sidelines of the Alto Adige Arena – Biathlon Centre Antholz, confirming itself as an iconic meeting point for athletes, officials, representatives of business and politics, and fans who will attend the Biathlon World Cup 2024 from 18 to 21 January.
“Today begins a new life for the Südtirol Home, which will see it play a leading role as the beating heart of the Alto Adige Arena – Antholz Biathlon Centre for the whole of 2024 and 2025,” emphasizes Martin Oberhofer, CEO of Rubner Haus. “This is the latest step along a path that sees in reuse the possibility of extending the life cycle of an architectural work, helping to minimize waste and generating further value for the community.
Assembled in only three weeks, as if it were a construction kit, the Südtirol Home covers an area of 227 m² with a breathtaking panoramic view dominating the competition area, thanks to the huge 152 m² of glass windows surrounding the façade and the large terrace. On the outside, the wood-fibre-insulated building flaunts the colours of South Tyrol, while inside, natural materials such as spruce and loden, a typical Tyrolean textile, with which the seats are upholstered, create a warm, elegant and cosy atmosphere.
