Schönbrothof wins the German Design Award 2020

On 7 February, Maximilian Rubner and architect Stefan Hitthaler received the GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2020 for the Schönbrothof in Frankfurt am Main during the Ambiente trade fair.

At the German Design Award 2020 the multi-storey house of the Rubner family was awarded as winner in the category 'Excellent Architecture'. The Hitthaler architectural office convinced the top-class international jury with its design, which quotes the historical tradition of the typical houses of rural origin through its forms and integrates perfectly into its surroundings despite its extraordinary architecture.

"The two uppermost volumes, clad in wood and towering above, make the building unmistakable. The orientation in different directions also results in different views," said a jury spokesman in his statement explaining the award. And continues: "The building is in balance. First it digs itself into the ground and creates space. As it gets higher, it dissolves, gets higher again, and enjoys the valley at the end, wants to be free and floats in the air."

Every year, the German Design Award honours innovative products and projects, their manufacturers and designers. These are groundbreaking in the German and international design landscape, because the renowned prize discovers and presents unique design trends. The aim of the competition is to promote the design-oriented economy.
