Rubner: The right answer to every question
Would you like to know about the different construction methods, the origin of the timber, or how Rubner homes perform in hot, cold or damp conditions? With over 60 years’ experience in building timber homes and more than 90 years’ expertise in timberworking, we have become true specialists. We are happy to answer our customers’ most frequently asked questions about Rubner timber homes.
Wood and wooden houses
The Rubner Haus production chain is unique and begins with responsibly managed forests. Part of the PEFC-certified wood comes from our own forests in South Tyrol, while the rest comes primarily from the Alps, specifically from forests in Styria, Austria. This natural resource is then transformed into construction timber, laminated timber, solid wood panels, and wooden doors and windows for the various companies of the Rubner Group.
Spruce and larch are primarily used for construction. Various types of wood can be used for surfaces, such as boards and floors. All the wood used in Rubner Haus houses comes from sustainably managed and PEFC-certified forests.
Wooden houses offer excellent thermal insulation thanks to the natural properties of wood. This material has low thermal conductivity, which allows for the construction of structures free of thermal bridges, those areas in the building envelope where heat loss occurs and where mold and condensation can form.
During the summer, Rubner Haus takes advantage of the high thermal inertia of wood. In constructing the building envelope, we use the highest-quality natural insulating materials, such as cork and wood fiber, which, together with our structure, significantly slow down the heating of the rooms.
Furthermore, Rubner Haus buildings feature a breathable envelope, designed with increasing permeability from the inside out. This allows the humidity produced daily in the rooms—for example, during cooking, washing, or even simply breathing—to escape, keeping the walls dry.
Technical advantages
What do you need to know about our construction systems
A Rubner Haus wooden house offers many advantages:
- Living comfort: the result of attention to healthy interiors
- High quality: achieved thanks to the high level of prefabrication
- Fast construction times: made possible by the high degree of prefabrication
- Simplified management: thanks to a single point of contact throughout the project
- High energy efficiency standards: for low long-term costs
- Planning certainty: thanks to fixed costs and defined deadlines
- Seismic safety: due to the reduced weight of wood and the ductility of connections
- Fire protection: thanks to the intrinsic properties of wood
- Sustainable approach to the environment: since wood construction reduces emissions and stores CO2
The soundproofing of interior walls is achieved through the use of decoupled double walls. This solution is extremely effective compared to a double masonry wall, as sound is dispersed through the different layers made of different materials. Thanks to their variable weight, these materials absorb a greater number of frequencies, thus improving overall soundproofing.
Wood offers high fire resistance, burning slowly and with well-defined combustion rates and fire temperatures. Compared to a masonry structure, wood maintains its load-bearing capacity for a longer period. It remains mechanically unaffected up to temperatures of 120°C, and the layer of carbon that forms on the surface exposed to fire protects the internal mass.
Rubner homes are certified for their fire protection, as confirmed by leading organizations such as CSI in Milan (a European center for the certification of material and product conformity), MFPA in Leipzig (a testing, inspection, and certification institute for construction products), and ETA (European Technical Approval for building components).
The execution
A Rubner Haus project
The answer is yes: all our living spaces are unique and designed to reflect your dreams! Rubner Haus builds custom wooden homes, ranging from single-family and multi-family homes, additions and extensions, to functional homes, tourist facilities, and luxury villas. Crafted with care and attention, every detail is carefully considered in collaboration with designers and clients.
For this reason, we do not formulate offers that include standard products. Rubner Haus operates like a traditional construction company, but uses prefabricated and sustainable construction systems, thus becoming the single point of contact for the entire project. We build houses based on architects’ designs, using natural materials and customized design. We bring your dream home to life, ensuring that each of our buildings expresses a unique character: yours.
From the dream to the turnkey delivery of the home, Rubner Haus accompanies customers through every stage of their project’s realization.
The first contact takes place through an initial consultation to thoroughly analyze individual needs. Depending on the state of the architectural project, consultants provide a preliminary cost estimate, offer support during the design phase, or collaborate with the technician to define every detail and prepare a detailed, personalized quote.
Once the contract is signed, a dedicated team is created, consisting of a technical project manager, responsible for design details, and an executive project manager, who coordinates workers and suppliers until the new living space is delivered.
The time required to build a Rubner Haus house depends on several factors, including the type of construction system chosen (block house, Casablanca, frame system), the size, and the geometry of the house.
Production and assembly are rapid, but require careful planning, given the high level of prefabrication. For example, for a single-family home with a gross floor area of approximately 140 m², only three days of factory work are needed.

Safety and security
Rubner Haus places healthy and safe living comfort as a fundamental priority when building its homes. For this reason, we carefully select environmentally friendly and sustainable products, free from harmful substances, to ensure a healthy and safe living space.
Furthermore, all our materials undergo rigorous testing by independent bodies such as Holzforschung Austria, Bund Deutscher Fertigbau, Gūtergemeinschaft Blockhaus, and Federlegno, ensuring country-specific approvals. We maintain constant contact with experts and research institutes to stay up-to-date on best practices.
In the rare event that a customer develops allergies, our in-house product development department is ready to investigate and design customized solutions, without compromising the quality of the final product.
Yes, Rubner Haus houses offer high levels of safety during seismic events, thanks to the combination of wood’s lightness and elasticity. Our wooden structures are approximately three to four times lighter than masonry and reinforced concrete constructions. A lighter building means less horizontal force is applied during an earthquake.
Furthermore, wood is an elastic material that can deform under seismic forces, returning to its original shape without breaking. This property gives wooden buildings superior resistance compared to rigid materials, significantly reducing the risk of dangerous collapses.
Rubner Haus houses guarantee burglary resistance, as tested in the company’s in-house testing laboratories and by PfB Rosenheim (Test Center for Building Components) and ift Rosenheim (Institute for Window and Door Technology).
