The Osmose Campus in Dijon, France, is more than just an administrative building – it is the expression of a new vision for public working environments. Designed by Architecture Studio and developed by Groupe Lazard, the new headquarters of the Département de la Côte d’Or consists of two organically shaped buildings flanking a central garden. Rubner was commissioned to produce and assemble all timber-frame facades.
Curved shapes, spacious balconies and landscaped loggias underline a fluid and open architectural language, while the planted garden functions as a natural, cooling buffer zone. The construction of the buildings combines a concrete structure of pillars, beams and floor slabs with a high-performance timber facade – a hybrid solution that unites the thermal mass of concrete with the insulating and airtight properties of timber, thereby achieving excellent thermal performance.
For this project, we manufactured fully equipped facade elements at our plant in Île-de-France: around 3,800 m² of timber-frame facades as well as 1,750 m² of Douglas fir cladding. Each component was delivered on site as a complete prefabricated module. The curved wall elements were manufactured with high precision according to the building’s geometry, which demanded exceptional accuracy.
Off-site prefabrication ensured that all components were assembled in an environment protected from the weather and moisture. This allowed a precisely controlled building envelope of consistently high quality to be assembled on site, while also significantly reducing installation times, noise pollution and construction waste. The eco-conscious approach of the project is supported by bio-based materials, a 700 m² photovoltaic system and comprehensive rainwater management (BREEAM Very Good certification).
Providing a total of over 7,600 m² of new office space, this project in Dijon has created a contemporary administrative headquarters that combines collaboration, sustainability and architectural quality in an exemplary way, offering a comfortable working space for 400 employees of the Département de la Côte d’Or.
