The first timber stadium in Australia
The new main stand of the Eric Tweedale Stadium in the Granville Park in Cumberland near Sydney is one additional successful project that is implemented in Australia by Rubner Holzbau Bressanone and coordinated by the Australian partner Theca, after the award-winning projects "Marrickville Library" and "The Link" in Melbourne, which won the Australian Timber Design Awards in 2020.
The new stadium, home to the Two Blues Rugby Union Club, was designed by dwp and Northrop Consulting was called in for structural engineering.
Thanks to the timber structure, the new stadium perfectly fits into the surrounding park landscape.
The stadium has a prominent cantilever roof of about 8.5 metres that offers shelter to some 750 visitors.
The entire roof and supporting structure have been factory prefabricated by Rubner Holzbau and shipped to Australia in eight containers.
